The power within us

The event conference aims to preserve, develop, and share event management expertise that will encourage the establishment and application for future cultural and sports events in our region. Events and event tourism contribute significant value locally, regionally, and nationally every year, and are predicted to become one of the major export goods in the future.

As part of the 2025 World Championship project, VM 2025, through “KRAFTA i OSS,” seeks to create a MEETING PLACE that will contribute to and motivate more small and large events to be held throughout Vestland. Here, you can get inspired, meet experienced organizers, make connections, and receive valuable tips!

The first conference will be held in Førde on October 12, 2024.

It’s likely impossible to get the exact calculations right, but what are the ripple effects of the hundreds of small and large events that take place every year in Nordfjord, Sunnfjord, and Sogn? PwC provides examples of the value of selected events.

Skåla Opp became Northern Europe’s largest, toughest, and most spectacular mountain race. It was held for 20 years. What impact did Skåla Opp have on Loen, and why was the decision made to end the successful event after 20 years?

Landskyttarstemnet is Norway’s largest shooting competition, attracting around 15,000 shooters and other visitors annually. In 2028, the plan was for Førde Shooting Club to apply for the event for the fifth time. However, the application was never submitted, and the revenue of tens of millions of kroner was lost. From Jølster to world cup | ATLE HAMAR

It’s not enough to just have snow; it must be perfect to create optimal conditions for alpine skiers aiming for the top. Passionate enthusiasts in Jølster have been an approved organizer of FIS races since 2010. Many Norwegian world-class alpine stars have raced down the slopes with a view of Astrup’s domain.

From Nashville to Breim | VEGAR SÅRHEIM

In 2025, it will be thirty years since the first artists from “over there” performed from a truck trailer at Fjordhestgarden in Breim. Today, the venue is set up to welcome major stars from the country music scene and thousands of festival-goers from across the country. Every summer, more than half of the residents of the village volunteer to organize Norway’s best country festival.

World Weightlifting championships | STIAN GRIMSETH & SOLFRID KOANDA

The 2025 World Weightlifting Championship will be the largest international sporting event ever held in Norway in terms of participating nations. Competing with major cities like Tashkent in Uzbekistan, Sofia in Bulgaria, and Las Vegas in the USA, the championship was awarded to small Førde. This is a historic event—how is this possible?

We will also meet Solfrid Koanda, who made Norwegian sports history with her historic Olympic gold medal in Paris this summer. Solfrid will share her journey to the Olympic gold and, most importantly, her path and expectations leading up to the World Championship on home soil in October 2025.

Bergen is the major “city” in Vestland and hosts many small and large events every year. How can Bergen help promote and support the execution of events in the rest of the county?

Knut Skeie Solberg inspires, engages, and drives development. The winners are not only those who stand at the top of the podium; here, you’ll gain a new perspective on how collaboration and well-functioning teams are built – and the power that lies in working together.

Green events | HILDEGUNN HOVE

It’s easy to talk about it, but how can we actually make a difference? Hildegunn Hove from the Sogn and Fjordane Football Association talks about the work being done with green events. With increased environmental awareness and the implementation of simple environmental measures, we can collectively reduce our environmental footprint significantly.

Open sea and wide sky | ERLING BAKKE NYDAL

It’s best with sun and a blue sky, but for Kinnaspelet, they must make do with whatever nature has to offer out in the open sea in the west. Every year since 1985, Kinnaspelet has been performed in harmony with nature, between the rocky cliffs and the stone church on the island of Kinn in Florø.

The Mountain Sports Festival in Sogndal describes itself: “We have always been driven by people who want to create local enthusiasm and development.” You don’t need to say more, “Mountain is calling”.

Who are we?

The World Championship is owned by the Norwegian Weightlifting Federation, AK Bjørgvin, Førde IL, and Tambarskjelvar IL. The event will largely be based on volunteer work, which will be compensated through the distribution of equipment and financial surplus. Additionally, the organization has an administration team working on the planning and marketing of the 2025 World Championship.
