Care for people and the environment
WC 2025 is focused on creating a championship that takes care of both people and the environment, and contributes to diversity and inclusion. We want to take our share of the responsibility and focus on sustainability in our work with the WC.
The WC in weightlifting 2025 has a unique opportunity and an important role in the work to create an inclusive arena for everyone, both leading up to the WC and during the championship itself, but also laying the foundations for the time after the WC.

The UN has 17 sustainable development goals, of which we have selected five that are part of and form the basis for the WC Weightlifting 2025 strategy. The Weightlifting WC has selected these performance goals, where we believe that we can especially help make a difference.
The 2025 Weightlifting World Championship aims to inspire increased activity and the sharing of knowledge that promotes better public health and improved quality of life.
In the Norwegian Weightlifting Federation’s strategy, there is a focus on ‘A Strong Body, A Strong Mind.’ Through various projects leading up to, during, and after the World Championship in 2025, we emphasize social and physical activities tailored to all target groups. We share insights and expertise for better public health and quality of life.
Public health and quality of life also involve diet and nutrition. We aim to inspire healthy habits based on the Ministry of Health’s dietary guidelines, and during the championship, the focus will be on healthy and nutritious sports food.
We will promote the importance of clean sports in collaboration with ADNO.

The 2025 Weightlifting World Championship is a championship for everyone, focusing on inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunities.
The World Championship will be an inclusive arena, both on the road to the event and during the championship itself. We desire equal opportunities for all. We are particularly pleased that women are excelling and doing exceptionally well in weightlifting. During the World Championship, there will be no difference between women and men; the conditions and prizes will be the same. We want to show the world that sports should be equal for everyone. We will especially highlight women as positive role models.
Economic barriers in sports are also a challenge. International elite sports are largely reserved for wealthy countries. At the Weightlifting World Championship, we will facilitate less inequality and have allocated specific funds to help smaller nations and federations send their athletes to the 2025 Weightlifting World Championship.
Diversity and inclusion are central to our mission. We aim to contribute to the development of local communities, facilitate the sharing of experiences, and develop expertise.

By maintaining a conscious approach to reuse, purchasing, and consumption—and by sourcing from local producers—the 2025 Weightlifting World Championship will minimize its footprint.
We are taking a number of concrete steps for smart purchasing and consumption of equipment, as well as recycling and reuse. We have sustainable purchasing routines that support local actors and those who prioritize sustainable consumption and production. We collaborate with others on shared equipment and want to ensure that equipment has long-term use after the championship concludes. We will contribute to solutions that reduce packaging use and total waste amounts. Good routines around accommodation will reduce the need for washing bed linens and towels, and we will offer a sustainable food concept that reduces food waste and highlights local culinary traditions.

By encouraging responsible choices among ourselves, our audience, our partners, and suppliers, the 2025 Weightlifting World Championship will have a reduced climate footprint.
The 2025 Weightlifting World Championship is taking several measures to help combat climate change. In terms of transport and mobility, we will challenge the industry to provide sustainable transport options for athletes and audience members. We will facilitate solutions that ensure recycling, reuse, and proper waste management. We will choose energy-efficient solutions and implement measures to keep energy consumption as low as possible.

The 2025 Weightlifting World Championship will be a collaborative arena that builds competence and promotes awareness of sustainable value creation.
The 2025 Weightlifting World Championship has been awarded to Førde and Sunnfjord. On a national and international scale, this area is geographically and in terms of population considered a small place—surprisingly small to host such a large championship. At the same time, we want to demonstrate that through good collaboration, both locally, regionally, and nationally, we can achieve our goals.
We will work together with the municipality, county council, and government. We aim to create long-term values and ripple effects alongside the business community, and we will also involve and include volunteers well beyond the weightlifting family.

The championship is owned by the Norwegian Weightlifting Federation, AK Bjørgvin, Førde IL, and Tambarskjelvar IL. The event will largely be based on volunteer work, which will be compensated through the distribution of equipment and financial surplus. Additionally, the organization has an administration that works on the planning and marketing of the 2025 World Championship.
